ABOUT

ALLISON

Hi! My name is Allison Croghan and I’m a News Anchor, Social Media Anchor, and Midday Meteorologist in Salt Lake City. I moved to Utah in 2012 after my first full-time TV job in Joplin, Missouri. My love affair with journalism began when I was a high school student in St. Louis. I was an editor of Louie Magazine, a lifestyle publication written by teens for teens. How cool is that? I was also the Yearbook Editor at my high school. I quickly declared my major as Print Journalism when I started school at the University of Mississippi. Soon, I found my true love, Broadcast Journalism, and changed my major accordingly, adding an English Minor, and an emphasis in public relations.  I’m also a big fan of the Oxford comma.

While I was at Ole Miss, I did half a dozen internships – the one people seem to be most impressed with was my gig at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, CT. I also worked for the Ole Miss Sports department, WREG in Memphis, KMOX in St. Louis, ESPNU, and the Memphis Redbirds. It was a whirlwind, but for a girl who grew up with two brothers-- all my college jobs were a dream come true.

I ended up accepting an on-air job as a General Assignment Reporter at KSN in Joplin. Just a few days after I signed my contract, Joplin was devastated by one of the deadliest tornadoes on record, an EF-5 that killed 160 people. I was actually shadowing Shepard Smith at FOX News in New York City when the tornado hit. Diane Sawyer was the first person I spoke with who had witnessed the destruction firsthand. Shepard and Diane both offered incredible advice about how to cover an event of that magnitude with professionalism and empathy. Once I arrived in Joplin, it was all hands on deck. A few months after I started, I was offered the opportunity to fill-in for our Morning Meteorologist. I ended up becoming the permanent Weather Anchor on the morning show before I accepted my current job in Salt Lake City.

As soon as I arrived in Utah, I started pursuing my Meteorology degree while working full-time at Fox 13 News. I graduated from Mississippi State’s Distance Meteorology Program in 2015. I love the challenge of putting together a complicated forecast for Utah’s diverse topography.

However, as I mentioned earlier, I am also the Social Media Anchor at Fox 13. So, the first half of my day is all about social media and what’s trending online. For 4 hours each morning, I produce and host “Fox 13 Connect,” a highly successful franchise where I talk about the top web stories.

From 2017 to 2018, I anchored the news from 4:30-5:30 each morning. In 2018, I launched Fox 13's traffic system. So right now, I anchor traffic and trending from 6-10am and do midday weather from 11a-1pm. Basically, I do it all. And I love it!

No two days are ever the same and I love the adrenaline rush of working at the #1 station in Salt Lake City—especially during breaking news or during severe weather.

In addition to my work at Fox 13, I truly love being involved in the community. Whether it’s hosting charity events or exploring slot canyons with the locals, Utah has been a great place to call home and I look forward to seeing where this crazy career takes me.
